Mahakaleshwar Bhasma Aarti: how it works
The 4 a.m. ritual, how VIP entry is arranged, and what to expect.
The Bhasma Aarti is performed before dawn (around 4:00 a.m.) and is unique to Mahakaleshwar. It is limited, so passes are issued in advance.
Getting in
We assist with the pre-booking and, where permitted, VIP entry so you are not in the general queue. Bring a valid photo ID matching the booking name. Traditional dress is expected — men in dhoti/kurta, women in saree/suit; the temple provides guidance on the day.
On the morning
- Reach the gate by 3:15 a.m.; phones and leather items are not allowed inside.
- The aarti runs about 45 minutes. Dress warm from October to February.
- Photography is restricted; follow the priests' instructions at all times.
If a slot isn't available for your date, the Sandhya and Shayan aartis are still a powerful experience and easier to arrange.
