Mahakaleshwar Bhasma Aarti: how it works

The Bhasma Aarti is performed before dawn (around 4:00 a.m.) and is unique to Mahakaleshwar. It is limited, so passes are issued in advance.

Getting in

We assist with the pre-booking and, where permitted, VIP entry so you are not in the general queue. Bring a valid photo ID matching the booking name. Traditional dress is expected — men in dhoti/kurta, women in saree/suit; the temple provides guidance on the day.

On the morning

  • Reach the gate by 3:15 a.m.; phones and leather items are not allowed inside.
  • The aarti runs about 45 minutes. Dress warm from October to February.
  • Photography is restricted; follow the priests' instructions at all times.

If a slot isn't available for your date, the Sandhya and Shayan aartis are still a powerful experience and easier to arrange.
